Seattle cloud company Indix raises $15M from Nokia, Nexus, Avalon

A Seattle cloud and big data company has attracted the attention of several prominent investors as it builds a back-end system for companies looking to improve customer product searches on their apps and websites.

Indix announced Tuesday it has raised $15 million in a series B round led by Nokia Growth Partners, India-based Nexus Venture Partners and San Diego-based Avalon Ventures.

“We are very pleased to back the world class team at Indix and support the global expansion of their industry leading Product Intelligence platform,” said Upal Basu, Partner at Nokia Growth Partners. “Commerce is dramatically changing and Indix has distinguished itself by having a highly scalable platform as well as a bold vision for the industry.”

The is the second round of investments in the company that Nexus and Avalon have participated in, and the first for Nokia. Indix has raised a total of $30 million.

Indix has its headquarters in Seattle, but also has offices in San Francisco and Chennai in eastern India.

The company’s founder, Sanjay Parthasarathy, said in a blog post last year that Indix is building a system so that “In the future, all apps will be product-aware, just as apps today are people and location aware.”

In other words, your apps already know where you are and whom you’re with, but in the future, they’ll also know what products are around you and if you should buy them there or somewhere else.
