The workplace is changing. By 2016, Forrester Research predicts nearly half of all US employees will log in to work from home or a decentralized location. That means companies need to find new ways for them to connect, quickly andsecurely.

To meet this growing need, Redbooth, a workplace collaboration and communication platform, has introduced new desktop and mobile business chat.

What it Does

Chat rolls email, messaging, videoconferencing, screen sharing and project management systems into one platform to help employees collaborate, wherever they are.

“Redbooth chats can be initiated directly from within a task, where and when the work is actually being done, so the recipient has clear context about the discussion,” said Dan Schoenbaum, Redbooth’s CEO.

Redbooth was one of 17 vendors that earned a spot in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace this year.

Customer Jamie DuBose, the founder and owner of Zenplicity, a virtual assistant agency, was enthusiastic. “We’re able to work more efficiently and collaborate more effectively in real time versus having to wait for an email or notification to hit our inbox,” she said.

Redbooth claims that the system increases efficiency because users don’t need to toggle between windows. “The presence engine also allows users to see which coworkers are actively in Redbooth, and can still initiate chat with those who are offline,” said Schoenbaum.

The system which ranges in price from $49 a month to $199 a month, depending on features, shouldn’t require special integration, he said. “There is an open API which may be used to extend Redbooth and integrate it into other software applications.”

In addition to desktop chat, versions are also available for the iPad, iPhone and the company has a beta version for Android devices.

Other features of the Redbooth system include

  • Notifications that let you keep in touch with employees even when they’re out of the office
  • Topic or team-specific group chat rooms that are always open, and archived.
