Dr. Jay B. Lichter, Ph.D.
Dr. Lichter is a seasoned biotechnology and pharmaceutical business executive with over 15 years of experience in management, scientific research and business development. He has led or been involved with transactions in excess of $600 MM. Currently, Dr. Lichter is the Vice President of Operations and Business Development of Sytera, Inc., a startup ophthalmology pharmaceutical company focusing on the discovery and development of drugs to treat the dry form of age-related macular degeneration. Prior to 2004, Dr. Lichter served as Executive Vice President of Business Development for Sequenom, Inc., a public biotechnology company where he managed all business development activities of the company. Dr. Lichter served as President and Chief Executive Officer of XenoPharm, Inc., a start-up company established with technology licensed to commercialize xenobiotic sensors. Dr. Lichter served as Vice President and Chief Business Officer for 454 Corporation, a majority owned subsidiary of CuraGen Corporation, set-up to commercialize a revolutionary DNA analysis platform. Earlier in his career, Dr. Lichter served the following companies in various management capacities: Pfizer, Inc., where Dr. Lichter negotiated and managed strategic collaborations in Genomics and CNS Discovery and Genset Corporation, a U.S. subsidiary of Genset S.A. the French-based genomics company, where Dr. Lichter ran the U.S. genetics laboratory and served as head of business development. Dr. Lichter was also a co-founder and held various management positions during his five years at Sequana Therapeutics. Sequana was one of the first Genomics companies established to identify genes involved in polygenic disease.
Dr. Lichter has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications. He acquired his Bachelor's Degree from University of Illinois in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of Illinois in 1990. He completed Post-Doctoral Fellowships at Yale University in 1992 and Du Pont Merck Pharmaceutical Company in 1993.
